Sena gets cross-voting corporators to resign
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MAR 25: The Shiv Sena has obtained the resignations of four of its corporators for crossvoting during the election of the chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).

The resignations of the corporators -- Ratan Borade, Surekha Bhosale, Seema Badade and Jaishree Gaikwad -- from the membership of the committee as well as from the membership of the NMC, were taken by the party's city unit chief Datta Gaikwad and district chief Sunil Bagul. The duo went to Mumbai and submitted the resignations to Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, who reportedly told them that the party's decision would be communicated to them soon.

The BJP, on the other hand, is yet to take a decision in the matter. The crossvoting at the election held on March 22 had led to the defeat of the BJP-Sena nominee, Sanjay Chavan, who is a close aide of former BJP minister Dr Daulatrao Aher.

Chavan could secure only six votes, while the NCP-Congress nominee, Nana Mahale polled eight votes. The 16-member panel comprised four Sena members, four BJP, three NCP, three Congress members and two independents. One member, Khalil Mirza (Congress) remained absent during the election while one vote was rendered invalid. Chavan, who was confident of getting eight votes of the Sena-BJP members, had told reporters that two members of the alliance had crossvoted.
