DMK shuts its doors on TRC, MGR-ADMK in the final listing
CHENNAI, MARCH 25: The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, on Saturday released the final tally of seats for 14 of its allies covering all the 234 Assembly constituencies. While DPI has been given one more seat, taking its share to eight, the TRC, MGR-ADMK, Tamizh Pattali Makkal Kazhagam, Toilers Party and the New Justice Party (which opened negotiations yesterday) were given no seats at all. The DMK will contest in 155 seats, while the BJP and MDMK would get 21 each. For Pudhiya Tamilagam, there are 10 seats, DPI gets 8, Makkal Tamil Desam gets six, ‘‘DMK supported friends’’ and Tamizhaga Muslim Iykkya Jamat get three each, MGR Kazhagam was allotted two seats. Releasing the list to mediapersons at Anna Arivalayam, Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi said the DMK’s share might vary by one or two seats but there would not be much difference. The DMK wanted to form the government independently. Karunanidhi said the process to identify constituencies was on with the allies. Asked if the ‘‘DMK-supported friends belonged’’ to the TMC Democratic Forum, Karunanidhi said: ‘‘I leave it for you to guess.’’ Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
