TDP to abstain from meets for Tehelka damage-control
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

HYDERABAD, MARCH 26: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), a major constituent of the ruling NDA has decided not to participate in NDA meetings or rallies organised with an aim of defending its leaders implicated in the Tehelka expose.

Briefing reporters after a politburo meeting here yesterday, R Chandrasekhar Reddy, party spokesman said the politburo was of collective opinion that its chief N Chandrababu Naidu had taken a right decision in demanding an independent enquiry into the Tehelka disclosures.

The meeting also decided to appeal to all its ministers, MPs, MLAs and corporation chairpersons to contribute 10 per cent of their basic income towards party fund, Reddy said.

Dates for the organisational elections for district party committees would be decided at TDLP meeting here on April 1 next, he said.

The party Mahanadu scheduled to be held in May would be attended by about 40,000 workers at Visakhapatnam, he added.
