Court rejects bail application of British citizen
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

JALPAIGURI (WB), MAR 28: A local court here rejected the bail petition of Rev John Thwaytes, a British citizen, who had been arrested by the police for overstaying in India without valid visa.

Rejecting the bail petition of Thwaytes, the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate of Jalpaiguri Krishna Poddar on Tuesday asked the police to produce Thwaytes before the court on April 9.

Moving Thwaytes' bail petition, his lawyer mentioned that he has applied for extension of his visa to the Centre but so far the application has not been sanctioned nor has it been rejected.

Thwaytes was arrested by the police under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act for overstaying without valid visa on February 28. He is in Judicial custody at the Jalpaiguri Correctional Home since his arrest.
