Man chops off wife's fingers, burns her
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

AHMEDABAD, MARCH 30: In a gruesome case of domestic violence, a man chopped off two fingers of his wife, disrobed her and burnt her leg and private parts before driving her out of the house. Police have arrested the man and his sister while the victim is being treated at the plastic surgery ward of the Shardaben hospital.

Kesarben Jagdish Solanki (26) told the police that her husband Jagdish Dungar Solanki and sister-in-law Shardaben Chhana confined her in the latter's house between March 17 and 25. On March 25, they tore off her clothes, cut off her hair and digits of two fingers and finally burnt her knee and private parts with a hot spatula. All this, because Jagdish suspected her of having an extra-marital affair.

Jagdish and Kesarben have been married for 10 years and have four children -- three daughters and a son. They resided at Indiranagar slum area in Maninagar.

Maninagar police said Jagdish was unemployed, a drunkard and had regular fights with his wife who he used to beat up. Ajaybhai, a family friend, occasionally came to their house, the police said. In the first week of March, after one such fight, Kesarben went to Ajaybhai's house, informing him of the domestic violence and seeking his intervention.

Suspecting an extra-marital relationship, Jagdish again beat up his wife before asking her to go her parents' house in Gomtipur. According to Kesarben's version, Jagdish and Shardaben, on the pretext of taking her back home on March 17, took her to Shardaben's residence, where she was illegally confined till the night of March 25.

Jagdish and Shardaben have been arrested and have been remanded to judicial custody.
