Apologise to Arunachal govt, court tells CBI NEW DELHI, MARCH 30: The CBI has been asked by a designated court to apologise and withdraw a letter written to the Arunachal Pradesh government asking it to initiate action against five officials. The letter said that the five officials had allegedly given false and exaggerated reports to the agency while probing a disproportionate assets case against former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister P.K. Thungon. The CBI had then taken the help of senior Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) officials to get the correct evaluation of Thungon's agricultural and horticultural property. Special judge R.L. Chugh gave CBI time till May 11 to consider ``withdrawal of the letter''. Earlier, Thungon had moved a criminal contempt petition against six CBI officers including joint director Ranjit Sinha. The petition said that by recommending initiation of proceedings against the five officials, who are witnesses in the case and had not been examined as yet, the joint director of CBI and other IOs had ``committed grave criminal contempt''.
