New Naval Vice Chief takes over NEW DELHI, APRIL 3: Vice Admiral Madhvendra Singh today took over as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS). In the Air Force, Air Marshal T.J. Masters was appointed the new Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Air Forces Training Command, at Bangalore today. The post of VCNS at Naval headquarters remained unoccupied for over a month after Vice Admiral P.J. Jacob retired on February 28. For a week, the government was unable to find his successor amid allegations there was a tussle between two officers for the post. Singh, then Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, was appointed, thus leaving both the officers out. However, Singh stayed behind in Mumbai for some time and took over as VCNS only this morning. He was commissioned in the Navy on January 1, 1963, and was judged the Best All-Round Cadet. Meanwhile, the Air headquarters today announced that Air Marshal Masters, who was Inspector General (IG) Flight Safety and Inspections, will take over from Air Marshal J.S. Rai. Air Marshal M. Mcmohan, presently Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO), Eastern Air Command, will take over tomorrow as Inspector General Flight Safety at the Air headquarters. Air Vice Marshal A.K. Goel has been promoted to the rank of Air Marshal with his appointment as Senior Air Staff Officer, Eastern Air Command, at Shillong, the spokesman added.
