APCC critices BJP on tie-up with AGP for polls
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, APRIL 3: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today criticised the BJP for its moves of forging an alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for next month's Assembly polls in the state, calling it as an opportunistic alliance between two ``corrupt parties''.

``By going for an alliance with the AGP, the BJP has only exposed its unethical and opportunistic politics. Till recently, all senior BJP leaders attacked Mahanta regime for its all-round failure and today they are going in for an alliance with the same,'' APCC president Tarun Gogoi told mediapersons here.

Since Home Minister L.K. Advani is playing a ``pivotal'' role in bringing about the alliance, Gogoi said he (Advani) should clarify whether he subscribes to AGP's ideology of commitment to right to self determination. He said such commitments by AGP mean that it has ``very little difference with ULFA and therefore the Home Minister should explain his stand on these issues''.

Gogoi sought to make light of the proposed BJP-AGP alliance, saying: ``In fact, we welcome it...people of Assam are keen for a change and BJP is no alternative.'' He said the Congress in Assam was not averse to the idea of an alliance with the Left and other secular parties to fight AGP-BJP combine.
