Security up for Clinton's one-night stay NEW DELHI APRIL 3: Police have beefed up security in the Capital in view of former US President Bill Clinton's overnight stay before departing to Mumbai and his subsequent trip to quake-affected areas in Bhuj. Sources said the police have strengthened security cover for Clinton. Though there is no specific threat perception, the security agencies are not taking any chances. Anti-sabotage checks were carried out around Maurya Shereton, where Clinton stays overnight. Since Clinton doesn't have a very big personal security cover this time, the police have been directed to take all precautions. Sniffer dogs and anti-explosive checks were also carried out before his visit. Intelligence officials have also been deployed for the purpose. A total of two platoons of armed police have been deployed on the route from the airport terminal and two platoons have been deployed around the hotel. The district police have also been mobilised, sources said. Clinton's security is being supervised by the Security section of the city police. During the earlier visit of Clinton the city had seen unprecedented security cover. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
