Drama at Osmania, students threaten to jump from terrace
Hyderabad, April 4:High drama prevailed at the Osmania University campus on Friday when 15 candidates appearing for exams for recruitment to the post of sub-inspectors locked themselves up on the terrace and threatened to jump to death. The candidates were protesting against the state Government’s notification which reduced the age limit to 25 from 28.
The candidates, all students of OU, trooped to the terrace of the Arts building and announced that they would all jump to death if the state Government did not increase the age-limit and demanded a meeting with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
Police officials who rushed to the spot could do nothing as the students had locked the terrace door and refused to budge.
Police Commissioner Prasad Rao said they had to wait and watch as the students kept the city police on their toes till 5 pm. They decided to come down only after the Chief Minister assured he would meet a delegation of students on Saturday afternoon and look into their demands.
