Tulip garden catches Bollywood imagination
Srinagar, April 5:: Director of Floriculture G Q Naqash said at least two prominent film makers from Mumbai have been making enquiries about the possible shoot in the garden.
Named after former Prime Minister, the 'Indira Gandhi memorial tulip garden' is 2700 ft long and 1400 ft wide. In total, 12 lakh tulips of 60 varieties spread a rainbow of different colours in the garden.
A day after its inauguration by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi last week, the garden has landed in controversy with the Hurriyat objecting to naming the garden after Indira Gandhi.
But it did not deter tourists from visiting the garden, as it witnessed over 10,000 people during the first five days after it was thrown open to the public.
The state Governor Lt General (retd) S K Sinha, who visited the garden, said it is yet another and significant addition to the garden enrich city of Srinagar.
The sprawling garden laid in terraces will have a water stream running in the midst of tulip beds with Zabarwan in the backyard.
The Governor was impressed by the rainbow effect of the 30 hectare garden, the home for 12 lakh tulips of 60 families (varieties)- red, orange, purple, white, pink, parrot and yellow.
