‘It’s not my problem if they allot me a plot'

When contacted, Amar Singh blamed the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and its officials.

“Yes, I had given a letter to the Chief Minister but it was through P L Punia. It was not even a typed letter but I myself had written it. I had simply written that I happen to be the elected member of AICC and the Director of Hindustan Times group, please kindly allot me a plot. Now, it is not my problem if they allot me a plot meant for economically weaker section. It is the duty of the LDA authorities to look into it. I am guilty only if I had given any false certificate in this connection or I had given wrong information on being asked in this connection. I was never told as to which category that plot fell in.”

On his AICC membership, he said: “At that time (April 1993) I was not in Samajwadi Party (SP) and had not even thought that I would join that. I was close to Veer Bahadur Singhji and was working with Madhav Rao Scindia. I was the elected member of AICC from Madhya Pradesh. I was not even the member of Rajya Sabha at that time.”

He blamed LDA and its authorities for changing the plot from Vikas Khand to Vipul Khand and then from one plot to another in Vipul Khand. “I had requested for a plot and I got one. Now where they allotted me that was not my headache. That the LDA should look into.”

Asked why did he recommend a plot for the person he bought a plot from, he said: “I bought that plot simply because it was adjacent to mine and luckily the owner wanted to sell it off. I paid full market rate for the same. I got the map passed and also paid the compounding fee despite the fact that Mulayam Singhji was the Chief Minister then.”
