Ex gratia provided to Kishtwar fire victims
Jammu, April 30: :The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced ex-gratia relief for the affected families whose houses were damaged in a devastating fire at Ongai village in Kishtwar district a few days back.
Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) Jugal Kishore Sharma, who along with MLA of Kishtwar Sajjad Kitchloo and Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey visited the village and supervised relief operations on Tuesday, announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 25,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for each affected family, an official spokesman said on Wednesday.
In the fire that occurred in Ongai village around 2300 hours on April 27 about 21 houses and ten cattle sheds were completely gutted and three houses were partially damaged.
Although there was no loss of life or injury to anyone, about 206 cattle heads were roasted alive in the fire, the spokesman said.
Besides, the government has also provided Rs 10,000 as cash assistance for each damaged house, Rs 2,000 for cattle shed, Rs 1,000 each for clothes and utensils for the fire sufferers under the Calamity Relief Fund, the spokesman said.
The minister also announced free ration for three months and free timber for construction of houses for the fire affected families in the village. Instructions were also given to provide jobs to the each affected family.
Sharma and Kitchloo have also announced cash assistance of Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000 per family respectively from their MLA local area development fund.
State administration is airlifting tents, mattresses, blankets, eatables, utensils and medicines to the village.
