One of the 15 suspects arrested so far in connection with the July 11 Mumbai serial blasts is a Pakistani national, Mumbai Police Commissioner AN Roy said on Wednesday. Naved Hussain (26), accused of planting the bomb that exploded at Khar station, was arrested from Hyderabad on September 30.
“Naved, whose father is based in Kuwait, came to India with his mother on her passport. She was a Pakistani national and his name was listed in her passport, which had a long-term visa,’’ Roy told The Indian Express. ‘’After her death, he did not get the papers updated. Naved does not have his own passport and is technically a Pakistani.” Naved’s lawyer Shahid Azmi, meanwhile, said he had not received any instructions on his client’s nationality but contended that ‘’if either of his parents is an Indian then Naved is deemed an Indian”.
