08 Assam blasts: CBI seeks custody of NDFB top gun

Boro was arrested last month by Assam Rifles in Aizwal and later brought to Assam.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the October 2008 serial bombings in Assam has sought the custody of George Boro alias John alias B. Jwangkhang one of the main accused and self-styled deputy commander-in-chief of the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB).

Boro was arrested last month by Assam Rifles in Aizwal and later brought to Assam. The CBI special task force has arrested more than dozen members of the outfit, including NDFB founder-chief Ranjan Daimary. Daimary was arrested in May last year. The arrests are being seen as part of the strategy of NDFB leaders to start a dialogue and is among one of the several reported from the Indo-Bangla border.

The arrests will facilitate a meeting between Daimary and Boro in jail where they can discuss their plans on talks.

After the serial blasts, the NDFB split into two factions; the pro-talks faction is headed by Dhiren Boro and the anti-talks by Gobinda Basumatary.

The agency said they had filed a chargesheet against Boro and will question him in connection with the missing links in the blasts.

A supplementary chargesheet is also likely to be filed after his questioning. Boro is one of the main conspirators who planned the attacks that killed 77 people and left several injured. He will also be confronted with Daimary and others as his name figured during the questioning of others, said a senior CBI official.

The CBI had announced a reward for the arrest of Boro, who hails from Guduligaon in Baksa district. .
