“The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to start some new courses from the coming academic session,” said C Gurumurthy, Director (Academics), CBSE while addressing a seminar at BCM Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurumurthy said, “Subjects like Human Rights and Home Science will be introduced from the new session.”
She further added, “The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) is already preparing the curriculum for these subjects.”
“The subject of Art Education has already been introduced in Class XI and XII. But from the coming academic session, we plan to introduce the course even in Class X,” she stated.
In reply to a question raised at the seminar that primary school students are usually overburdened studying three languages together, the academician said, “I am not an expert in languages but children generally pick up a language faster than elders.”
She also said that CBSE had very high hopes that the recently introduced subjects would prove to be useful for the students. Some of these courses include Heritage craft and Graphic designing. Talking about the implementation of a grade system, she said, “We have asked the High Power Committee for a suggestion in this regard. The decision is still awaited.”
Addressing the principals and teachers of different schools on creating a positive learning environment, she said, “The teachers should change their way of teaching from the stereotypical methods. The teaching should be more learner-oriented.” She suggested that learning should be promoted through play-way techniques, continuous and comprehensive evaluation, self-evaluation which helps in developing a positive attitude.”
