Arrested for alleged threat and assault,a man has sent the police CCTV footage to prove that he was in the Bombay High Court at the precise time he was supposed to have committed the offence.
The Oshiwara police had arrested Mir Mozam Ali on December 1 for allegedly brandishing a revolver and threatening a woman near Millat High School in Jogeshwari at 2.30 pm on November 25.
I have received a copy of a letter written by Registrar of the High Court to the Chief Justice in which it has been clearly mentioned that my presence in the High Court on November 25 at around 2.21 pm has been recorded by the CCTV footage, said Ali,who has written to the police authorities seeking action against the cops who arrested him without investigation.
Ali,an RTI activist, said the woman,Maimuna Selia, was involved in a dispute with him. The police had arrested him on her complaint.
On December 1,officers from the Oshiwara police station barged in my house at 3 am and arrested me on charges of voluntarily causing hurt with weapon and criminal intimidation. Ali spent a day in police custody and three more in judicial custody before getting bail.
Alis lawyer then wrote to the High Court authorities on December 8,seeking CCTV footage of November 25. The footage was made available by Azad Maidan police authorities to Oshiwara police station.
Ali has sought action against a senior police inspector,a police inspector and a police sub-inspector. These three officers were not available for comment.
Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Amitabh Gupta confirmed he had received a complaint from Ali.
We will verify the facts and check the CCTV footage. If his claim about being in court at the time of alleged offence turns to be true,he will be discharged from the case registered against him at the Oshiwara police station.
