‘Include chess in school curriculum’

“Chess should be made a part of school curriculum,” said Grand Master Vishwanathan Anand while speaking at the inaugural function of The Golden Future Chess Tournament at Pawar Public School auditorium on Tuesday.

“It would be interesting if we have a premier league like cricket and Pune would be the best place to start one such league,” he said.

Replying to a question on the ongoing debate about Sachin Tendulkar’s nomination for Bharatratna,Anand said,“ I believe that sportspersons should concentrate on the game rather than focusing on the administration.”

Commenting on the ongoing World Championship in Chennai,he said,“It has been exciting and distracting at the same time.”

On the notion that western players display more killer instinct than Indians,Anand said,“I have a more relaxed way of showing the killer spirit and i feel all Indians have it too.”

The event also witnessed the lauch of GMSF website apart from the unveiling of a gold and silver plated chess set, autographed by Anand,which will be put up for auction. The proceeds of the auction will be used by All India Chess Federation for the Blind.

Saurabh Gadgil,vice president,GMSF said,“Chess is a positive sport and seeing the God of chess speak is inspirational.”
