“It is an outdated notion that the United Kingdom is a racist nation. The UK is, perhaps, one of the few multicultural countries that offer good academic and career opportunities to Indian students,” said Jeremy Burgess of University of Salford on his visit to city to recruit Indian students today.
It was the second visit of the senior international officer, International Relations who says that Indian students are much in demand in the UK. “We look at quality and not quantity when it comes to foreign students. Indians are very intelligent, skilled and efficient. Hence they fit the bill easily,” said Burgess.
He also talked about the changes that the UK society has undergone over the past five decades which have led to the acceptance of the foreign students.
“The society is much more relaxed now. Indians too have integrated well in the system. So they are not perceived as a threat by the British,” Burgess said.
Commenting on the spate of racial attacks in Australia, Burgess said that racism was prevalent in some way or the other all over the world. “Because of a few rotten apples, we should not brand the entire community as bad. These were the handiwork of some mischievous elements but over all nations are very tolerant ethically,” he stated.
