A seminar and workshop on factors driving changes in education was held at the British School on Saturday. The seminar was held to inspire and support leadership and innovation in education. Syed Sultan Ahmed, educationist and founder of the magazine, Mentor, was the main resource person on the occasion.Sultan said: “We need to create citizens who have the necessary skills to live life and the confidence to transform their dreams into reality.” Dr Sunita Gandhi, academic advisor, City Montessori School, Lucknow, said that education today needs a new direction, not just tinkering at the margins. She opined: “The present education scenario is like an old medicine with an expired date; a 19th century gift in new wrapping. Innovation in education should be taken into consideration with the changing social needs and the aspirations of an individual. Innovation should also shift focus from local or national allegiance to an allegiance based on world citizenship, creating leaders and job providers. As a Chinese proverb states, ‘If we do not change direction, we are likely to end up where we are headed’.” As many as 150 teachers and parents from the tri-city attended the seminar.
