CPM to EC; Trinamool also using Dhoni pictures in campaign

Less than 24 hours after former CPM MP from Arambagh apologised for his derogatory remarks against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, the party today attacked Mamata again by lodging complaints against her alleging that her “disparaging and provocative” remarks might trigger tension and violence in the state.

“At a rally in Tollygunj on Sunday,Mamata said she controlled a syndicate of goons which is very objectionable. We are going to the Election Commission on this issue. We will also draw the EC’s attention to the use of the pictures by Trinamool showing Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni along with Mamata Banerjee,” said Biman Bose,Left Front chief in the state.

He said earlier the Trinamool had objected to the Election Commission’s move to use Saurav Ganguly as its icon and the former cricket captain had to beat a retreat. “But now that they are using Dhoni’s pictures,we have gone to the commission against it,” said Bose.

The CEO’s office said they have received the complaint and have forwarded it to the Election Commission of India for action.

At rally in Tollygunj,Mamata had alleged the CPM had set upon goons behind her. “There is no use in doing that. I control a goonda (goons) syndicate and will put them behind the bars,’’ said Mamata at the rally.

Bose alleged that Mamata was threatening to launch a goonda raj. He further said Mamata will have to clarify her statement regarding the “controlling of the syndicate of goons”. Bose said the party is lodging a complaint with the ECI on Mamata’s statement.

Bose also criticised the Trinamool chief for saying that she would find out the lost Nobel medallion of Rabindranath Tagore if she came to power. “The CBI could not do it and she says she will be able to do it. Is she above the CBI? ‘’ Bose asked.
