After being denied permission to hold a rally at Nagrakata in the Dooars area, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Saturday said they would not allow Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb to enter Darjeeling.

Earlier, the local administration refused to give permission to GJM and Joint Action Coordination Committee to hold the rally citing law and order problem. The administration had also enforced Section 144 of the CrPC in and around Nagrakata. To protest the administration’s decision, the Joint Action Coordination Committee, led by John Berla has threatened to start an indefinite strike from Monday.

GJM chief Bimal Gurung had earlier said threatened that his party would boycott the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. GJM general secretary Roshan Giri also supporting Gurung’s decision to boycott the meetings of Banerjee and Deb said,“We had to take the decision to protest the administration’s partisan functioning in reference to the pro and anti-GJM conglomerates.”

The Berla faction supports the GJM and wants the inclusion of the moujas of the Dooars and Terai in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) while the rival factions oppose the inclusion of moujas of Dooars and Terai in the GTA.
