A unique science exhibition ‘Sciencexpress’, mounted on a specially designed train chugged into the city on Tuesday. The state of the art train will be covering about 17,000 kilometres in a period of six months with halts at 51 railway stations across the country in the first phase that begun from November 30.

The train is scheduled to halt in Chandigarh till December 12 after which it would leave for Bhatinda.

“The train would halt for around three days at every scheduled stop. It has 16 coaches with over 300 large format visuals, 150 video clips and multi-media exhibits that deal extensively with cutting-edge research in science and technology. The exhibition attempts to develop scientific temper among people and encourages them to pursue careers in science,” stated the spokesperson.

It was also added that ‘Sciencexpress’ is a modified version of the earlier ‘Science Express’, an Indo-German collaborative project that was flagged off by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel on December 2 from New Delhi.

“Most of the exhibits have been developed by the Max Planck Society in Germany while some exhibits are indigenous. One coach showcases exclusively the glorious legacy of Indian science and technology along with the future programmes,” added the spokesperson.
