A doctor tried to shoot at a psychiatrist in the OPD of a private hospital after claiming that he needed treatment for anxiety and stress in Sahibabad in Ghaziabad.

Superintendent of Police SS Yadav has said that the accused, Dr Kiran Pal, had gone to visit Dr Sanjeev Gupta's OPD complaining of breathlessness and anxiety on Thursday afternoon. During the checkup, however, Pal took out a pistol and attempted to shoot his doctor.

According to the police, Pal, who claimed he was suffering from depression due to his ongoing divorce, alleged that Dr Gupta had injected him with a slow acting poison since he was known to Pal's in laws.

The police said no one was hurt in the incident as the hospital staff came in and managed to disarm Singh. "The hospital staff disarmed the accused after hitting him with a fire extinguisher and also spraying it into his face," said Yadav.

"Gupta had said he would check the accused's pulse and blood pressure but the accused suddenly took out his gun and pointed it at Gupta's head with the intention of killing him," said the police. By chance, said the police, the magazine of the gun got stuck and the accused could not fire. "Dr Gupta ran out of his OPD locking the accused inside. The accused managed to reload his gun and fired into the wall," said S.P Yadav.

"The accused is mentally unstable and has been suffering from a psychological ailment for a while. No one was hurt in the incident," said the police.

Dr Gupta denied the allegation of having attempted to poison Pal, the police added.
