‘Dissidents’ get tickets but in difficult seats

Looking at the list of candidates of the BJP,it is believed in party circles that a group,earlier tagged as dissidents,has witnessed a setback with almost all of them getting tickets for seats where they face a tough fight.

Apart from strong Congress candidates,BJP’s own candidates may play spoilsport in the coming elections. Those who ganged up against Vijay Goel,the party’s Delhi unit chief,have been given tickets where they face a tough fight and might even lose.

Four-time sitting MLA Harsharan Singh Balli has even been denied ticket. Pravesh Verma has been given ticket from Mehrauli against Congress’ Yoganand Shastri,a strong contender.

On Thursday,supporters of South corporation mayor Sarita Choudhary protested outside the Delhi BJP office against the selection of Verma,shouting “Outsider Pravesh Verma nahi chalega”.

Then again,Arti Mehra has been pitted against Kiran Walia. Anil Sharma,the candidate from R K Puram,faces a tough fight from sitting MLA Barkha Singh. “Barkha has a strong base in government colonies and it would be very difficult for the BJP to win that seat,” a senior leader said.

Vijender Gupta,who was demanding a ticket from Shalimar Bagh or Rohini,has been fielded from New Delhi Assembly constituency and losing this seat can damage the stature of the former Delhi unit chief,his colleagues believe.
