"The nation needs to know how Rs 2,645 crore of loss (in 2G allocation) turned a presumptive loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore. It can happen only if CAG is prepared to debate the entire 2G report on an open public platform," Tewari said while addressing a meet the press in the city.
"Our assertions have proved correct. A former CAG official R P Singh has said that as principal auditor he had calculated the losses to be Rs 2,645 crore. When the report was presented in the Parliament, the figure was Rs 1.76 lakh crore. It affected India's growth story," he added.
Tewari also accused PAC Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi of "forcing" the CAG to come out with figures, which have been questioned by the CAG official R P Singh, former D-G Posts and Telecommunication, CAG recently claimed that he was coerced to sign the 2G spectrum audit report though he did not agree with the views.
Tewari said party's stand for two years that the figures of Rs 1.76 lakh crore were "entirely mythical" and were not underpinned by any substantive methodology of calculation has been vindicated with the fresh development.
The facts which are now emerging in the public space suggest that some of the parameters which were used by the CAG were at the prompting of certain individuals who were outside it, he alleged.
Tewari said: "What transpired in those five months? For CAG it is incorrect to listen to prompting of individuals. Is it correct that CAG officials help PAC to prepare the report? These are questions that the CAG chairman should answer. The same exercise of presumptive loss calculation was done in case of coal mines. The report is ambiguous and the figures inflated." He said that those responsible need to answer for their actions.
