'Have the Congress chief ministers given a single gas cylinder in the last one month? I ask Soniaben to declare if they have given any'
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday came down heavily on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, saying she did not know the "ABC of governance" and challenged her to give one example of a Congress chief minister having provided a single additional subsidised LPG cylinder to domestic users.
"Soniaben came to Rajkot and said chief ministers of Congress-ruled states would give three extra LPG cylinders at subsidised rates. She asked why Modi was not announcing the same. However, she does not know ABC of governance. Just four days back, oil marketing companies clarified that they would not give more than six cylinders at subsidised rates in a year in any case," Modi said while addressing a public meeting in Balasinor.
"Have the Congress chief ministers given a single gas cylinder in the last one month? I ask Soniaben to declare if they have given any," the CM said. He also alleged that the Congress president is unaware of the woes of housewives since she does not have to cook herself.
The Central government had decided in September to cut the number of subsidised LPG cylinders to six per households per year.
Following protests, the Congress had asked its chief ministers to raise the cap on the number of subsidised cylinders to nine. However, oil marketing companies clarified last week that they would provide only six cylinders at concessional rates and state governments would have to give subsidy to customers directly if they wished so.
Modi also said the Congress chief had kick-started her election campaign in 2007 from Chhota Udepur in Vadodara district and her party had lost from there. "This time round, she has changed the direction to Rajkot. However, despite this direction-change, the woes of the Congress would only increase and the BJP would sweep Rajkot now," he said.
