‘Spurned lover’ attacks Fergusson student with chopper, arrested

The Pune police arrested a youth for allegedly attacking a 20-year-old student of Fergusson College with a chopper on Monday evening.
Police have identified the suspect as Anmol Atul Jadhavrao (23) of Kothrud.
Police suspect that he had professed his love for the girl and assaulted her after she turned down his proposal. Police said the girl is daughter of a former Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator. The suspect was produced before the magistrate court on Tuesday which remanded him in police custody till December 15.
Police said the incident took place near the gate of science department of Fergusson College. The girl is a student of computer science at the college. After her lectures got over, she went out around 6 pm. Soon the suspect came there in his car and allegedly started a conversation with her, which later turned into an argument. As the girl tried to avoid him, he allegedly got a chopper from the car and attacked her. She was injured in the right shoulder but managed to run away from the spot and inform the police.
The case was first registered at the Deccan Gymkhana police station and was transferred to Chatushringi police station as the crime scene was under its jurisdiction.
Investigation revealed that suspect Anmol was a friend of the victim's sister. He was introduced to the victim through the sister. Later, he started liking the girl and also proposed to her. But she did not accepted his proposal and so he allegedly attacked her.
She was discharged from hospital after medical aid. The suspect's father is reportedly in real estate business, while he operates a garment shop. He has been charged of attempt to murder and booked under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
