In order to pass on subsidy on kerosene directly to beneficiaries, the district administration has urged customers to submit bank account details to the fair price shops. District collector Vikas Deshmukh had issued orders on the kerosene subsidy recently.
Pune is one of the districts where first cash subsidy on kerosene will be passed on to the beneficiaries followed by LPG beneficiaries.
Officials said that they are facing a problem as many who have opened bank accounts have not registered with the fair price shops. "The shop owners will be responsible to collect the bank details of the beneficiaries and provide it to the administration. The same will be forwarded to the government,''said a senior official.
Officials warned that if the details are not provided the beneficiaries would not be able to avail subsidy on kerosene in future. The administration has also stressed that the bank accounts should be opened in the name of female members of the family.
As per the records, only 23 per cent of the beneficiaries have submitted bank account details to the administration till now. The administration finds the figure faulty as their drive on financial inclusion last year had drawn a good response. With the recent directives the officials want maximum beneficiaries to open bank accounts that would be a way forward for passing on the subsidy to LPG customers.
