The Special Cell team investigating the August 1 Pune serial blast case claims to have gathered evidence to indicate that the attacks were also meant to avenge the murder of alleged Indian Mujahideen operative Qateel Siddique in Yerawada Jail. They have recovered pistols and cartridges purchased by Sayyed Feroze to murder the family members of Sharad Mohal and Ashok Bhalerao, responsible for Siddique's murder.
Sources in police said that two sophisticated English pistols, nine to 10 cartridges and batteries were recovered from Feroze's workshop in Kondhwa, Pune.
"This is the same pistol which was meant to be used to avenge Siddique's murder. However, as they could not locate the addresses of the duo, their plan could not be implemented," an investigating officer said.
The Special Cell will visit Nanded with Imran Khan to find more about IM operatives.
S N Srivastva, Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), confirmed that a team was in Pune with Sayyed Feroze. "I cannot say anything about the recovery. They will come back and brief us about their findings."
On Thursday, Feroze from Shukrawar Peth in Pune, Imran Khan from Nanded and Asad Khan from Aurangabad were arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, for their alleged involvement in the low-intensity serial blasts on JM Road on August 1.
Sources with Pune police said the team of Delhi Police arrived with Feroze on Saturday afternoon. The police team reportedly took Feroze to a flat he had rented in Kasarwadi.
Ramnath Pokale, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II-Pune), said: "We were informed that a team was coming to Pune for investigation. We provided them the support they needed."
