‘Youth must innovate to improve water efficiency’

Youth must innovate and find ways to tackle water woes and improve water efficiency, said Rohini Nilekani, chairperson, Arghyam, a charitable institution founded by her, that has been working on water and sanitation issues since 2005.

Addressing the 24th Bhogilal Leharchand Memorial Lecture, she said, "The most important thing is to create consciousness and engage in discussions. Securing the future of water is every citizen's business."

Titled 'Water Futures It's Everyone's Business', her address to a gathering comprising young students and entrepreneurs at the Welingkar Institute of Management, she elaborated on the current and future status of water in the country.

"One does not necessarily have to be a farmer to realise there is water scarcity in the country, both in terms of quality and quantity. As the 'elite', even making the right food choices can help in reversing the scarcity of water in the country. Even big beverage companies have been forced to change their water usage system to maximise efficiency," Nilekani said.
