Two incidents which happened at the Sector 19 police station and Aroma light point have raised questions about the working of the police.

In the incident which occurred at the Sector 19 police station, a shopkeeper of the Sadar Bazar, Sector 19, alleged a police constable and an ASI beat him and his employee for no reason. The cops, however, said it was just a misunderstanding as the constable was in a civil dress.

The shopkeeper, Rajesh Goyal, who owns an eatery in Sadar Bazar, said, "My worker Prem had gone to a nearby public tap to wash a cloth. While he was washing it, a person approached him and asked him to move as he wanted to take water. Prem stepped aside but still the person slapped him, and Prem retaliated. Following a minor tussle, the person filled water in a bottle and went back."

Goyal added, "Five minutes later, the person returned and started beating my employee. He even tried to strangulate him with a muffler. I tried to intervene but he started beating me as well. I did not know that he was Constable Dilbagh Singh."

As Goyal approached the police station and spoke to Assistant Sub-Inspector Balram Rana, the ASI allegedly started beating him.

However, Rana said, "A worker in the nearby shop started throwing stones at our driver. He was seriously injured and taken to GMSH-16."

Goyal and his employee were made to undergo a medical examination in the evening. DSP Vijay Kumar said, "Who was at fault will be decided only after the SHO submits a report to me."

In another incident, a constable of the UT Traffic Police allegedly punched a car driver in the stomach. He also abused him at the Aroma light point. The driver's offence was to jump the red light following which Constable Lakhwinder Singh assaulted him.
