’02 riots: Ajay Choksi appointed new SPP in Naroda Gam case

Choksi is already an SPP in the 2002 Prantij British national killings case,which is one of the nine cases handed over to the SIT for further investigation by the Supreme Court. Choksi is also known to have represented D G Vanzara,accused of fake encounter.

On Monday,Choksi had reportedly gone to the trial court and sought time to collect documents related to the case from Shukla and to get prepared. The trial judge,S H Vora,granted the permission and has kept further proceedings on July 1.

Post remains vacant in Gulberg Society case While the state government has appointed new Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for the Naroda Gam case,the corresponding post for the Gulberg Society case is still lying vacant. SPP in the case,R K Shah,and his assistant Nayana Bhatt had resigned from the post after levelling serious allegations against the SIT and the trial judge.

The Supreme Court had taken serious note of the same. On Monday,Shah and Bhatt got an official communication to the effect that their resignation has been accepted. Though,it is not known if the two have been replaced or not. Although,speculations were rife about the names which could have replaced the two in the high-profile riot case,there was no official confirmation in this regard.

Law Secretary M H Shah pleaded ignorance if any decision has been taken by his department since he has proceeded on leave from Monday.
