As many as 10,330 arrests have been made in Vadodara since January 2009 till date, according to figures released by the police on Tuesday.
Commissioner of Police Rakesh Asthana said the arrests were made over a period of time, and some of them have been released as well.
“Those arrested include bootleggers, historysheeters and externs in the city. These arrests were made beforehand as there was rise in anti-social activities,” he said.
He added that most of the arrests were made during the Lok Sabha elections and before religious processions.
The arrested include 4,666 held under Section 107 of CRPC (preventive arrests), 93 under the Prevention of Anti-social Activities Act (PASA), 1,586 under prohibition, 150 labelled as externs or tadipaad, 1,414 under Section 102 for owning properties used for illegal purposes, and 336 under the Bombay Police Act.
Asthana added that most of the PASA arrests were of bootleggers, operating out of the city. “Most of these arrests were made by the police before the Lok Sabha elections and religious gatherings to prevent unlawful activities,” he added.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested eight people under PASA as a preventive measure ahead of the Rath Yatra.
