10 consultants appointed to inspect city bridges

The BMC on Wednesday appointed 10 consultants to inspect and suggest repair of the 58 bridges in the city which where categorised as dilapidated following physical inspection in 2009. After a delay of about a year,the standing committee passed the proposal to appoint 10 consultants across the city to undertake detail inspection and suggest repairs of the bridges. A state-appointed committee in 2007 had conducted inspection of 253 structures including flyovers,footover bridges (FOB),railway-over bridges and subways,and found out that most of the bridges were dilapidated and needed urgent repairs. Following inspection,it had recommended BMC that a physical inspection of all these structures and a detailed survey of the dilapidated ones should be done.
