Angry that a 10-year-old girl had slapped his nephew, affecting his hearing, a 32-year-old man raped the minor in Tughlaqabad Extension, Southeast Delhi, on Friday evening, police said on Sunday.
According to police, the man abducted the girl while she was on her way to buy vegetables. He took her to a secluded area and raped her. Police said he also threatened her against revealing the incident to anyone and later dropped her near her house.
"The girl had slapped the man's nephew, impairing his ear. The nephew is still admitted in a hospital. This reportedly angered the accused and he planned the revenge. He intercepted the girl when she was on her way to buy vegetable around 7 pm on Friday and forcefully took her to a secluded spot," a senior police officer said.
The next morning, police said, the girl's elder sister enquired about her health. Since the girl was scared, she told her sister that the man tried to grope her, police said. The elder sister then approached the police.
Initially, a case of molestation was filed as the 10-year-old had not narrated the entire incident. She was sent for a medical examination at AIIMS, and doctors found that she had been raped, police said. Following this, the case was converted to that of rape.
No arrest has been made so far. "We are questioning the relatives of the accused and are trying to trace his location through his mobile phone. Investigation is on," an officer said.
