10-yr RI for main accused in fake stamp paper case

  • A Karnataka special court on Monday sentenced K A Raghavendra, owner of a printing press in Bangalore, to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a fake stamp paper case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 29 lakh.

    The CBI had seized fake stamp papers worth Rs 1,80,500 from Raghavendra’s Janatha Printers on May 26, 2004. The court also sentenced M Ramachandra, an employee of Janatha Printers, to seven years’ RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh. Fake stamp papers worth Rs 1.49 lakh were seized from his residence.

    Another accused, P Munna was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. A fine of Rs 5 lakh was also imposed on him. Two others who had helped in faking impressions and watermarks were sentenced to seven years’ RI and handed a fine of Rs 5 lakh each.
