A 10-year-old middle school student at Salaiyya village in Katni district risks losing her vision in the left eye that was damaged by a stick thrown towards her by a teacher.
Sangeeta Chaudhary said she could not answer a question asked by her Hindi teacher, who is also the school headmaster. The angry teacher then threw a stick towards her which hit her in the left eye. Despite Chaudhary’s injury, the teacher refused to take her to a doctor and asked her to go home. When the parents insisted on treatment, he took Sangeeta first to a quack. Later, when they took her to the district hospital the doctors told them that her chances of regaining vision was remote.
Katni SP Renu Shukla said she visited the victim in the hospital and ordered filing of a complaint against the teacher.
Lakshman Singh Gaud, Education Minister visited the girl and ordered immediate suspension of the teacher.
