Partapra (Jalandhar), September 25: Ransom of Rs 30 lakh demanded from the family

The ten-year old son of a landlord in Partapra village near Jalandhar was kidnapped today morning from near his house. Sources say a ransom of Rs 30 lakh has been demanded from the family.

It is learnt that though the family wanted to keep the matter secret, the villagers informed the police, which launched a massive search operation. This has reportedly alerted the kidnapper too. The family and the police are hesitating to say anything on the issue.

Tejinder Singh, a Class IV student in Manav Sehyog School, had gone to his farm house on the outskirts of the village, at about 6.30 am today. Tejinder had taken the bicycle of his friend, living in the neighbourhood.

Tejinder’s father Ranbir Singh owns about 25 acres land, valued in crores. Ranbir’s brother Daljit Singh is an NRI. After about an hour, when the other boy came to take his bicycle, the family told him that Tejinder hadn’t returned yet. The boy went to Tejinder’s farm house. He found his cycle lying near a school in the village. Tejinder was not to be seen anywhere.

The boy informed the family. By that time, Tejinder’s mother Amarjit Kaur had received a call from the kidnapper, who demanded Rs 30 lakhs as ransom for releasing the boy. Sources said the caller demanded that the money be paid by 11 am the same day. It is learnt that the caller also told Tejinder to speak to his mother on phone.

When contacted, SSP PK Rai said that he could not comment on the issue. It is learnt that the caller didn’t call again and switched off his phone, as the police is monitoring every move.
