The 11th edition of the Jaldindi event left for Pandharpur from Alandi on Thursday. A large number of people joined the 12-day long journey after paying homage at the samadhi of Sant Dynaneshwar at Alandi. One of the aims of the event is to spread the message to safeguard the environment from degradation owing to pollution and other reasons.
President of municipal council of Alandi Varsh Kodre, chairman of Varkari education board Maruti Kurhekar and chief engineer of Pimpri Chinchwad water supply board Pravin Ladkat attended.
The Jaldindi will first reach Tukapur taluka where the participants will be alloted various plans of actions. They will also spread awareness regarding water pollution on the 450 km long stretch and will also launch cleanliness drives.
The river and its banks would be cleaned by specific land and river teams formed for the purpose. Members of various social organisations will also undertake tree plantation camps on the route. Till date they have planted around 4,500 trees. President and founder member of the initiative Vishwas Yevle mentioned that the journey will conclude on November 5 at Pandharpur after performing religious rituals at the Vithoba Temple.
