At least 16 minor children, who were allegedly lured for work in a factory in Gujarat, have been rescued by the Allahabad branch of Childline India Foundation, which runs a helpline for missing children.
District in-charge of Childline, Santosh Kumar said today that the children - belonging to Allahabad and Chandauli districts - were rescued from a biscuit factory located in Muthia village under Naroda police station area of Ahmedabad in Gujarat on September 20. Subsequently, a case was registered at Naroda police station on the basis of the children's complaint, said Kumar. The children were brought to Allahabad and reunited with their parents.
"These children, aged between 13 and 16, belong to tribal families. At least 12 children were from Kukhara Bakhora village under Koraon police station area. The other four were from Narayanpur village in Chanduali," he said. No missing report had been lodged by their parents because they were taken to Gujarat on the pretext of getting a job.
Kumar said the children were forced to work for about 12 to 14 hours without being paid.
