1-day remand for Bangalore resident kidnapping accused

One of two accused arrested in the kidnapping of a Bangalore resident on November 6 was remanded for one day in police custody by a local court on Friday. While Vijay Kumar was taken into police custody, co-accused Kajal, Vijay's wife has been sent to judicial custody.

The police has sought the custody of the accused on the grounds that their car was used to take the victim Dhiresh Shah from Chandigarh to Ambala. Also, the accused had withdrawn Rs 70,000 from the account of Shah when he was in the custody of the accused. The money also has to be recovered.

The couple had surrendered on December 27 to the UT police and were arrested on charges of abduction of Dhiresh Shah, a manager of Nandi Hotel, Bangalore who had come to Chandigarh on November 4 by air for business purposes at around noon.

On the same day at about 8 pm, one of his co-workers, Mohan, received a call from Shah's mobile and Shah said that he was in trouble as he was detained by some unknown persons demanding Rs 20 lakh as ransom for releasing him.

During the interrogation of the two accused arrested on Thursday, Kajal has confirmed that there was a dispute between Dhiresh Shah and Kajal who used to work in Shah's hotel as a dancer. So to take revenge, Kajal made a plan to kidnap Shah and demand the disputed money in ransom.

Kajal was a dancer in Shah's hotel six years ago and had an ongoing dispute over the payment of Rs 3 lakh with Shah. Due to this, Kajal along with Ajay Verma, Ashok Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Amit Kumar and Devki Nand allegedly conspired in the kidnapping.
