A ray of hope has emerged for all those residents, who have a fad for purchasing ‘catchy’ registration numbers for their vehicles. The Chandigarh Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has prepared a list of all those paid registration numbers that have found no takers in the previous auctions with the intent to re-auction them.
According to RLA officials, UT Estate Officer R K Rao has summoned the list of registration numbers, numbering 2,362, which were never sold. The list has been prepared CH-03-C series onwards, till CH-04-F, which was auctioned earlier this month.
“We are planning to issue a public notice in this regard, whereby which we shall invite people for buying such paid registration numbers,” said Jairam, Registering and Licensing Officer.
On an average, the RLA collects revenue of around Rs 7 to Rs 10 lakh from every auction of the paid registration numbers.
While the registration number — 0001 — is sold with a reserve price of Rs 25,000, the other single-digit registration numbers (0002 to 0009) and identical double-digit registration numbers (0011, 0022, 0033, 0044, 0055, 0066, 0077, 0088 and 0099) and 0100 and 0101 are sold for a sum of Rs 15,000 each.
The bids start from the reserve price. Often, interested applicants even cross double the reserve price for bagging a particular registration number.
According to the RLA’s rules, any applicant who wants to take any registration number ‘out of turn’ has to pay Rs 5,000. Otherwise, the computerised software automatically allots a registration number to a particular vehicle without extra charge.
