  • District and Sessions judge K K Garg on Tuesday acquitted two persons in an abetment to suicide case. The incident dates back to 2005 when Kuldeep, a resident of Panchkula, had committed suicide after hanging himself from a ceiling fan.

He left behind a suicide note accusing his wife Jaspreet and her friend Hemant Gautum of leading him to take the extreme step. He accused Jaspreet of having an affair with Hemant, who was her business partner.

Following the recovery of the suicide note, the police had booked Jaspreet and Hemant for abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the IPC. However, no evidence was found against the two accused and the prosecution failed to prove the case, said defense counsel Harish Bhardawaj.

“The couple had an ongoing dispute and the wife was living separately. The basic instigation for abetment was missing in the case and that’s what we proved in court,” said the advocate.
