2 AIT staff die after bus hits bike

A senior faculty member of the Army Institute of Technology (AIT),Dighi and his colleague,a lab instructor,died on the spot after their bike was hit by what police suspect is a luxury bus near Sangamwadi bridge on Monday evening. Yerawada police identified the deceased as P V Bhat of Bibvewadi and A M Doiphode (40) of Dighi.

A police officer said they were heading for Shivajinagar and had taken the new Sangamwadi Road,when an unidentified Volvo bus is believed to have hit them. The impact split their helmets,police said.

Cops said a police team that rushed to the spot found a Volvo bus (registration number MP 234444) near the spot with blood stains on the wheel. Police added that the driver has told them his bus was involved in the accident. Yerawada police was recording eyewitness statements. The bodies were sent to Sassoon General Hospital for autopsy.
