More than 48 hours after the ambush by Maoists in Orissa’s Sunabeda wildlife sanctuary, the Chhattisgarh Police has no news about its lone missing policeman amid rumours that the constable has contacted his family.

Constable Holaram Sahu, who had joined service in 2006,is the only person who is yet to be accounted for after Monday evening’s ambush of Chhattisgarh Police personnel near Sunabeda village in Orissa’s Nuapara district.

Raipur IG Mukesh Gupta said the police had no information on Sahu so far. “We have been told by some people that Sahu was sitting near the tractor with the driver and the Maoists mistook him as a tractor staff. We have also been told that Sahu has contacted his family after the incident. But we have not been able to verify it,” said Gupta.

Forces have been sent in large numbers to look for the Maoists as well as the missing policeman, constable Holaram Sahu.

An FIR has been lodged with Komna police station in Nuapara district as the place where the ambush happened is under its jurisdiction. Gupta said the families of all nine policemen would get compensation in the next 15-20 days. “At least one family member will get a government job,” he added.

Meanwhile, the three interlocutors who negotiated Malkangiri collector Vineel Krishna’s release from Maoists have warned tribals would take the matter into their hands if the government did not keep its promise.
