Two persons died and five others were seriously injured when a section of a bridge on the Shentrunji collapsed on Saturday. The incident occurred on National Highway 8 E between Talaja and Bhavnagar.

The giant truck carrying heavy machinery was heading towards Pipavav port from Mundra port. Following the incident, road traffic on the national highway was disrupted.

Sub-Inspector R R Surani, while confirming the incident, said: “Two persons died while five others have been injured. The bridge collapsed due to the weight of the truck, which was beyond the load bearing capacity of the bridge.”

Surani told The Indian Express that a rescue operation is on, adding that the five injured have been rushed to civil hospitals in Mahuva and Bhavnagar.
