A Class IX student of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, has tested positive for swine flu, forcing the school authorities to suspend the Class IX for one week. The girl is 14-year-old and resides in Rajiv Vihar, Manimajra. According to health officials, she was admitted to GMCH, Sector 32, on Sunday and her condition is stable. Her family has been quarantined and put on Tamiflu.
A junior resident doctor from the endocrinology department of the PGI also tested positive, increasing the number of positive medical and paramedical staff in the city hospitals to 26. This is the third consecutive day when a positive case among the PGI resident doctors surfaced.
After a Class VIII student of DAV Sector 8, Panchkula, tested positive, both the sections of the class have been suspended for two days.
“We have not received any directions from the Panchkula administration on swine flu and are therefore following the guidelines issued by the Chandigarh Administration. Nearly 25 -30 students suffering from cold are sent back home daily. We are also screening students every day,” said a school official.
Meanwhile, after being closed for over a week, St Anne’s School opened today, while St Stephen’s that was closed last week will reopen on Wednesday. St John’s will also reopen on Wednesday after a week.
On Monday, health officials collected five samples. The results would come by Tuesday.
