2 flyovers open on Outer Ring Road; pedestrians rue lack of facilities

Crossing under the flyover is also difficult,since landscaping work is still on at the site,residents said. “There is heavy machinery lying under the flyover and the road is riddled with potholes. The traffic signals do not work half the time,” Sanchit Sharma,a resident of Vasant Vihar,said.

The stretch — from the first flyover at IIT to NH-8 — lacks subways or foot overbridges. The only one,which is located close to NH-8,was constructed by D S Constructions as part of their concessionaire agreement with the National Highways Authority of India.

A proposal for three foot overbridges on the stretch has been on hold for over a year now. The plan was not approved by the DDA’s Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre earlier,following controversy over the locations of the foot overbridges.

“Various RWAs in the area were fighting over the issue,with each wanting it in their area,” a senior PWD engineer said.

The proposal was finally approved last week and the locations for the foot overbridges were zeroed on. “We will be floating tenders for the three projects shortly should be able to complete construction by March or April next year,” the engineer added.
