Two persons were killed when security forces allegedly opened fire at anti-poll protesters in Baramulla town on Saturday breaking the peace in the elections underway in Jammu and Kashmir while Mehbooba Mufti's convoy was attacked by an irate mob but the PDP leader escaped.

In the first fatalities during the election process on the eve of the second of the seven-phased polls, Manzoor Ahmad Kumar, a resident of Khanpora, was killed when the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the Congress nominee from the constituency, who was campaigning in the area, allegedly opened fire at the anti-poll protesters, official sources said. Five people were also injured in the violence.

As soon as the news of death of Kumar spread, protests intensified in the town with more people coming out to the streets, the sources said, adding that security forces opened fire to disperse the protestors in which another youth, Tanvir Shaikh, was killed.

baramulla firingBy: Kauul | 22-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Mr Johney, whereveryou are, don't try to justify the killing of an innocent person by brutal policemen. Democracy gives you the right to vote or not to vote. Kashmiris have seen such farce elections many times in the past and nothing good has come out. Dont try to befool yourself as well as the nation by such writings.
Attempt to disturb electionBy: Johney | 22-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward It is sure that the anti-national groups will try their level best to disturb the election as they know if the election is conducted like the first phase, they will lose the support they have now. In this situation, people will be afraid to cast their vote. That was their aim too.
